Back of Beyond is an outdoor adventure company based in Canmore,
Alberta, Canada. Canmore is a small town at the gateway to Banff, Kootenay,
Yoho and Jasper National Parks, and to Kananaskis Country and Peter Lougheed
Provincial Park. We offer small group walking and hiking adventures that range
from luxurious accommodations to backcountry campgrounds, and from half-day
nature walks to eight-day treks.
We offer our programs year round with snowshoeing, backcountry
skiing, canyon ice walks, and moonlight excursions in the Winter, and hike-and-shoe trips in the spring. These
unique adventures are open to people of all ages and abilities through our
regular, custom, and family programs.
 As a local company, we provide
friendly, professionally certified interpretive guides who are local to this
area. Our guides have a passion for the guiding lifestyle and have not only
hiked and climbed extensively in this region, but have studied the natural and
human history. They delight in sharing their passion for the Rockies, and will
immerse you in our local culture, entertain you with anecdotes, and welcome
your many questions. We also utilize other local companies and resources. This
means that your tourism supports the local economy to the maximum degree
possible.
Back of Beyond guarantees that you will be in a group with no
more than eight clients. If your backpacking group exceeds six participants, we
will assign two guides in order to maintain the same level of service and
safety we ensure on all trips. Since our inception in 1993, Back of Beyond has
never cancelled a trip due to insufficient numbers, and has proceeded with a
scheduled trip even with only one participant.
 We understand the importance of our client's vacation
time. We respect the scarcity of this time, and the value of vacations to an
individual's well being. We take pleasure in offering you seamless holidays
where you need not worry about details, but can relax and enjoy your time with
us and the beauty that will surround you.
 We are members in good
standing of the Banff-Lake Louise Tourism Bureau as well as the Canmore and
Kananaskis Tourism Associations, and the Canmore Chamber of Commerce. We hold business
permits for the municipalities of Banff and Canmore and licenses to conduct
walking, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing and backpacking tours in the parks and
wilderness areas in which we operate.
 Back of Beyond Adventure Company is proud to be one of the first small companies accredited by the Mountain Parks Heritage Interpretation Association. This Association is responsible for professional certification of the interpretive guides operating within this region of the Canadian Rockies. The Association is supported by Parks Canada, and is dedicated to improving interpretation of our cultural and natural history.

 Central to our
philosophy at Back of Beyond is the provision of superior service, dedication
to the safety of your party, and a commitment to accurate interpretation of our
local natural and human history. We operate with respect for the highest
environmental ethics to ensure that the tourism experience we offer is truly
sustainable for the area's ecology and for future generations.
We achieve the ideal of superior service by keeping our groups
small and, when necessary, by providing additional guides to help with
individual needs within specific tours. If you have registered for one of our
family excursions, you will find our guides particulary adept at keeping
children interested, and presenting information in a way that will make
learning fun and exciting. Furthermore, we are available to help with your
pre-trip preparations. We are happy to provide maps, equipment lists, exercise
tips, and even a bibliography of guidebooks and field manuals so that, if
you're interested, you can obtain a wealth of background information about what
you will be experiencing.
 Our guides will show you the scenic wonders we personally cherish most, and take you to areas where opportunities to see wildlife are maximized.
As in all outdoor pursuits there is an inherent risk with this
activity, and the possibility of accidents. Our guides are trained in
wilderness first-aid, and will instruct and assist you with possible hazards
which may include:
* Negotiating hazardous terrain such as cliff bands, creek crossings, summer snowfields, slippery rocks and logs;
* Dealing with large or small animals, including bears;
* Maintaining you in top form through proper trail nutrition and hydration.
At Back of Beyond we will ask that you sign an agreement to hike
and camp in an environmentally sensitive fashion, following the ethics of
minimum impact. We believe this to be the only way that tourism is sustainable
in these ecologically sensitive areas. We thoroughly respect all directives
from the local authorities responsible for maintaining the integrity and
viability of our wilderness.
