 Birders' Classic Adventure Tour
This route is a dream come true for those adventurers, especially
birdwatchers, who enjoy magnificent scenery combined with traditional western
comfort and hospitality. On our journey we will travel extensively through many
varied habitats of Western Canada.
Our quest begins east of Calgary in the prairie grasslands and
proceeds north into the Aspen Parklands in Central Alberta, west into the mixed
wood and Foothills Boreal Forests.
Next, we traverse the
spectacular Rocky Mountains where we will experience the Eastern Montane
region, the Sub-alpine and Alpine regions of the interior Rockies ending in the
Western montane of the Columbia Valley. Many sites within these habitats are
recognized as being globally significant for the bird species that utilize
these ecosystems. The Columbia Valley contains some of the most extensive,
relatively undisturbed wetland habitats in North America.
Your guide, Peter Duck, is a conservation biologist,
a certified professional interpreter and an accomplished birder who is very
knowledgeable and is local to Alberta and the Rocky Mountains. Another
naturalist will accompany this tour, to help with birding, but also to provide
interesting excursions to other points of interest along the way. Together they
are sure to astound you with the intricacies of the natural and human history
around you.
This trip is not only a Birding Classic, but you will see a wide
range of other wildlife which could include Bison, Elk, Mountain Goats, Rocky
Mountain Big Horn Sheep, Moose, Black and possible Grizzly Bears and other
large carnivores.
